Introduction to Theatre for Schools

A classic ‘drama club’ for today’s students

Young students act out a scene on a stage

Post-pandemic, more and more schools are looking for ways to help their students explore the arts in a casual, welcoming, and engaging environment. CLIMB is answering the call with our drama club inspired residencies, tailorable to the school’s interests and often culminating in a student-devised performance. Drama club allows students to develop their collaboration and communication skills, touching on our EMPOWER skill sets along the way — and of course, they get to bring the world of their imagination to life through theatre!

Keewaydin Elementary

Students at Keewaydin Elementary in Minneapolis, MN have been getting creative with CLIMB since 2022, in their first semester with our teaching artists. Since then, the students have put on their own performances at the end of each semester, completely written and designed by them with CLIMB’s help! These students work towards creating a play for their friends and family, exercising their creativity and play while they’re at it.

Featured in this photo is one of our 2023-24 actor-educators, Alissa, who taught Seward Montessori’s first ever after-school theatre club in Minneapolis during the spring of 2024. These students dove into Alissa’s ‘Acting with Good V.I.B.E.S’ curriculum, a perfect blend of introducing theatre skills with an SEL lens, showing students how to apply these collaborative skills to their everyday lives.
