What If? (9-12)

These innovative theatre classes help high school students find creative solutions to problems they identify.

Techniques and Strategies

1. We start with deinhibitizing activities that establish a safe space in which students are free to express ideas and connect with one another.
2. We move to brainstorming activities that help the group define the issue(s) they’ll be exploring. These exercises get participants on their feet and engaged.
3. Then we do activating work, where skilled actors improvise scenes based on the issue(s) the students have identified. Students enter the scenes and role play their own ideas for solutions and interventions.

High school students are confronted with difficult social challenges every day. But like the rest us, they’re likely to be skeptical of anyone who claims to have all the answers. CLIMB’s What If creates a safe, creative space where students have the chance to explore their own questions and test their own solutions. Students will leave challenged and empowered to make choices that are best for themselves and their communities.
