CLIMB Theatre (http://www.climb.org) is seeking applicants for an Assistant Teaching Company Director (Synchronizer). CLIMB is a touring educational theatre company based in Inver Grove Heights, MN that serves approximately 400,000 students each season. CLIMB’s mission is to create and perform plays, classes, and other works that inspire and propel young people towards actions that benefit themselves, each other, and their communities. CLIMB Theatre’s Teaching Company uses interactive theatre techniques drawn from Theatre In Education, Creative Drama, and Theatre of the Oppressed to begin dialogues in K-12 students’ classrooms on topics ranging from bullying to social justice. Position Description and Responsibilities
The Synchronizer reports to the Producer Of Excellence in Teaching and is a member of a dynamic administrative team that values hard work and flexibility. The specific responsibilities of the position are:
Assisting with training of the 26 Actor-Educators that comprise the Teaching Company in areas ranging from questioning techniques and classroom management to characterization and improvisation;
- Assigning sold programs to teams of Actor-Educators based upon their specific talents and abilities;
- Conducting and tracking field observations of the workshops conducted by the Teaching Company;
- Assisting with the Actor-Educator hiring process (attendance of auditions and interviews, conducting reference calls, etc.)
- Serving as a consultant for Actor-Educators on frequently facilitated activities and lesson plans;
- Serving as an understudy for the Teaching Company;
- Serving as the “first call” in case of Teaching Company program-related emergencies;
- Reading and processing professional records of programming;
- Maintaining Teaching Company databases and files;
- Maintaining props and costumes for the Teaching Company;
- Maintaining shared Artistic Staff office space.
Skills and Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in theatre or a field of related study;
- Experience in Theatre In Education, Creative Drama, Theatre of the Oppressed, Community Devised Theatre or another field of interactive theatre;
- Experience as an actor at the college level or beyond;
- Competence with Mac computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel;
- Interest in facilitation of interactive theatre and theatre for social change
- Ability to keep a cool head in a time of crisis, willingness to remain “on call” to understudy for a touring theatre company, the ability to represent CLIMB in an engaging and friendly manner, the ability to take initiative on a task when a need is assessed, the ability to create and manage a system independent of supervisory intervention;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Salary: This is a full-time position with an annual salary of $25,000. Benefits information available upon request.
