Actor-Educator (Teaching Company Member)

Responsibilities

Co-conduct classes; choose lesson plans; make confirmation calls to schools visited; plan and direct rehearsals; compile a comprehensive record of each residency; organize paperwork; choose props, costumes, and music for classes; contact local newspapers and TV stations to inform them of CLIMB’s upcoming visit.

Qualifications

Must hold a college degree. Must be a strong performer capable of playing multiple characters in a short span of time. Have enthusiasm for working with young people. Experience with children and/or training in creative drama, theatre education, or Theatre of the Oppressed is a plus, but not necessary.

Actor (Performing Company Member)

Responsibilities

In an ensemble of three actors, perform a repertory of 1-7 plays for grades K-9. In addition to performing, actors load in, set up, and load out sets, props, and costumes. Each actor also takes on additional responsibilities such as arranging hotels for overnight stays, driving the truck, coordinating media coverage, communicating with the schools, and road management.

Qualifications

Must either hold a college degree in theatre or have spent time as an actor in a setting that prepared them for a rigorous performance schedule. Must be strong performers with the capacity to play multiple characters in a short span of time. Experience with children and/or training in creative drama, theatre education, or Theatre of the Oppressed is a plus, but not necessary.

Rehearsal Stage Manager

Responsibilities

Stage manage one or more of the Performing Company ensembles. Track all blocking, script changes, rehearsal notes, and create a legible copy of a working script for each show. Organize and familiarize actors with all technical elements of the shows, videotape selected rehearsals, find/build props as needed, attend production meetings and tech rehearsals, and all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must have stage management experience in a variety of settings, including gathering and creating props and working with lights, sound systems, and wireless microphones. Must have a college degree in techinical theatre and/or stage management, or equivalent experience.

Director

Responsibilities

Freelance directors direct plays for each season’s repertoire. They function as part of a team consisting of Rehearsal Stage Manager, Producer of Excellence in Performance, the playwright (when available), CLIMB’s Artistic Director, and the actors.

Qualifications

Must possess significant professional experience directing actors at all experience levels. Experience directing theatre for youth is a definite plus, but not required.

Costume Designers

Responsibilities

Must work with the Producer of Excellence in Performance to create, build, or purchase costumes for new plays. Must be able to refurbish and/or rebuild designs for existing plays. Have experience meeting deadlines, shopping for materials on a reimbursement basis, be available for fittings during the rehearsal process, and be present for tech rehearsals and production meetings.

Qualifications

Must have a representative portfolio available for viewing and evidence that they have designed a variety of shows. Must possess a college degree in set and/or costume design or have equivalent experience.
